The email rumor mill is up and running again. I received an email recently stating that GM, Chrysler and Ford each donated $10 Million following 9/11, and that the foreign automakers donated zero (so whose cars are you going to buy you socialist -or- freedom-loving American patriot)?
According to snopes.com. I did some fact checking as usual, and found out a rather different story.
All in all, the email claims that domestic auto makers contributed over $30 million to the recovery efforts and Am. Red Cross, Salvation Army and to other organizations. In reality, the donation claims are around $12 million from US auto makers, IF the "up to" $10 million that Chrysler* "made available" to children who lost their parents on 9/11 are included at full face value.
